Short answer
If it still has use in it, list it free or cheap on Marketplace with a delivery option for buyers, or ask a furniture charity to collect. Council bulky waste collections cost £30–£62 and take about two weeks, and should be the last resort.
WRAP estimates 670,000 tonnes of furniture go through UK bulky waste collections every year, and about half of it could have been reused. In London, the problem is rarely finding someone who wants it. It's getting it to them.
Your options, best first
1. Give it away or sell it cheap
Free items on Marketplace, Freecycle or Olio get plenty of interest, but many people can't collect. Add "Delivery by renwd from £19, book at renwd.co" so a buyer without a car can still take it. You don't pay anything.
2. Charity collection
The British Heart Foundation, Emmaus and local furniture reuse charities collect for free, but they turn down a lot: painted, dated, or anything without a fire safety label (for upholstered items).
3. Council bulky collection
Most London councils charge £30–£62 for a few items and have a wait of around two weeks. It goes to waste or recycling, not to someone who could use it.
What renwd doesn't do
We move furniture from one home to another. We don't take items to the tip: carrying waste for money needs a waste carrier registration, and tips refuse trade vans. If nobody wants it, use your council's bulky collection.
